ICE BEAM BEFORE THARDUS

1 video available for this trick!

You can get the ice beam as soon as you have the wave beam. To do this, you must climb the Furnace spider ball track without the spider ball. In the NTSC version, there are two ways to get up, but in the PAL version it seems so far that there's only one.

Go to the Furnace in Chozo Ruins and locate the spider ball track in the room's exterior. The good news is that if you're playing the NTSC version, it takes almost no thought to get up. Walk up to the spider ball track and face slightly left, pressing against the left side. The screen might start to shake a little and you should get stuck on the track, and Samus will begin to move up the track. You can speed up her ascent by jumping rapidly; your jumps are given back to you instantly. Once you land on the top of the track, morph and roll through the hole, then proceed to Hall of the Elders.

The other way of getting up is to morph into a ball and do a wall tbjm against the track (it counts as a wall). If you're playing the PAL version, you'll need to use this method. Try to land on top of the track when you morph out, then morph back into a ball and roll through the hole. You can also get up without morphing out at the end or with a standard tbj, but there's not much point in using one when the wall version gets more height and is actually easier to do.

After you enter Hall of the Elders, you'll have to reach the bomb slot at the top of the room without the spider ball. This is easy to do, and works the same way in both versions. Look for a glowing, disc-shaped object embedded in the wall with a small post sticking out of it. There are many of these in the room, but one happens to be just under the ledge with the bomb slot and to the right of it a little. You can see it clearly in this picture.

Space jump and land on the post from the closest ledge you can find, then space jump again to reach the ledge with the bomb slot; place a bomb in it to activate the three beam slots above the chozo statue in the room. Now use the purple slot to open the path to the Reflecting Pool and let the statue take you there.

Once you've gotten to Reflecting Pool, the rest is done as usual. You now have the ice beam before Thardus, which opens up many possibilities. You can get the plasma beam any time now if you feel like it; it doesn't require the spider ball either.
