It looks like you may only need to collect five energy cells in order to access the Pirate Codes that allow you to learn the location of Phaaze. The other four places they are needed are for things off of the main path in the Valhalla.

Energy Tank (Norion)

It is possible to skip past the Energy Tank that appears to be in your path. All you have to do is Spring Jump up into the tunnel from the raised portion of the platform near the tunnel entrance, giving you enough height to land in the tunnel but avoid the Energy Tank.
