The Ghetto Jump (which was named by Kip) is a move used to achieve greater jump heights than usual by means of using a wall and holding L to lock your veiw.  When jumping, press against or just barely touch a wall.  There are different variations of this jump, such as holding L for a certain amount of time or jumping into a crack to force yourself upwards.  It all depends on your surroundings.

In Prime only, the Ghetto Jump is most noticable when you execute this trick underwater, while still being hindered by the affects of water.  Extremely high distances have been recorded.  Some hindered single jumps have even matched the height of regular, unhindered space jumps.

In Metroid Prime only, the Ghetto Jump is most noticable when you execute this trick underwater, while still being hindered by the affects of water. Extremely high distances have been recorded. Some hindered single jumps have even matched the height of regular, unhindered space jumps. This strange underwater affect was removed in Metroid Prime 2 Echoes.
