Where's Chykka?

There's something rather odd that can occur during the Chykka Larva fight. You can temporarily gain a sort of "floating" attribute to your jumps that can possibly be of some use, but it's unknown yet.

To do it, before the fight starts, shoot down 3 of the targets binding Chykka, then get in the dark water and shoot down the last one. If you're in the water at the time the cutscene starts, try jumping after the cutscene ends and see if you go higher. As you can see from the video, I went and got the temple's energy in the middle of the fight, but Chykka was nowhere to be found when I came back. I couldn't progress, and there was no dark visor to pick up, so I'm not sure if this can be used to skip Chykka for a time save (I left during the larva form; something may be different if you leave during the adult form).

Regardless, you keep the floaty attribute if you beat Chykka. Aside from taking an elevator to another area, you lose it by touching water (dark or normal), so you have to beat Chykka without touching the dark water in his room. You also don't keep it if you save the game and reload the file.

Overall, unless it's possible to take this to another area somehow (or skip Chykka's adult form and go on with the game normally), it's useless. Maybe you could get the Torvus Plaza tank without spider or something... like that's so great anyway. So unless someone finds a way to use this and still get the Dark Visor, it seems relatively useless.

Other notes:

  • if you lose the floaty attribute while fighting Chykka, you can't get it back by being in dark water when the end of larva form cutscene is played (not sure about his death cutscene)
  • grapples and dashes are somewhat floaty, but bomb jumps are not (doubt it can be used for a one bomb at a time ibj or anything)
  • midair morph seems to be improved by it
  • unknown whether terminal falls get rid of it
