'''Grapple Beam'''

- Only needed for the room prior to the Vault (room you get Screw Attack in). Methods have been found to bypass all other grapple points.

- Alternatively, figure out how to skip Screw Attack (as described below) and solve reaching the Energy Controller room in Sanctuary Temple.

'''Screw Attack'''

- Needed in Ing Hive Temple, <s>to obtain an Ing Hive Key</s>, to obtain the Sky Temple Key in Ing Hive Entrance, and to reach Emperor Ing.

'''Gravity Boost'''

- Dark Tovus Key 2 prevents this skip. Either reaching Sanctuary early, defeating the PB Guardian without Spider Ball, reaching the Dark World portal without Gravity Boost then leaving Light Torvus without Gravity Boost, or secret worlding to the key are the only known possible and plausible solutions to reaching the key without Gravity Boost.

''update:'' PB after Dark Suit is now possible using a Secret World in Feeding pit. It is still too early to tell, but Grav Boost can be likely skipped this way. But not for lower % due to the nature of needing the main PB expansion (see below) and extra e-tanks.

'''Seeker Missiles'''

- Gates blocking the path from Torvus to Sanctuary. These include Sacred Bridge, and the second room past Sanctuary Entrance. You can not see the seeker targets for these gates without Dark Visor; however, you can damage seeker targets without Dark Visor on.

- Accursed Lake and Reliquary Sky Temple Keys

'''Echo Visor'''

- Needed only to disable the sonic locks enroute to Quadraxis. Quadraxis, Dark Samus 3/4, and the Ing Hive key in watch station can all be reached/beaten without using echo visor.

'''Boost Ball'''

- Needed to enter Sanctuary (1st room in Sanc.) and break the window to reach the Echo Visor/Dark Samus 2 fight.

'''Annihilator Beam'''

- Only the doors in Ing Hive temple prevent this item from being skipped. However, bypassing them will likely only be possible via secret worlds.

'''Spiderball'''

- Needed for various rooms still, PB Guardian, and potentially Emperor Ing form 2. Not needed for Quadraxis.

'''Dark Visor'''

- Needed to see and damage Ing Hive Caches holding sky temple keys. Summised they only exist when the dark visor is on in a manner akin to how Omega Pirate is only damagable when X-ray is on in Metroid Prime 1.

- Also needed for Seekers to lock on to Dark World viewable Seeker targets.

'''Light/Dark Beams, PBs, Super Missiles, Missiles, Bombs, Space Jump, Light Suit'''

- All needed in multiple locations. Chance of skipping these is likely 0.

'''Translator Doors'''

- Great Temple, Agon, and Torvus translators required to reach later areas. Sanctuary Translator currently needed to reach Spiderball region.

'''Notes:'''

- The only known "skippable" required item (that counts as %) is the Dark Suit but requires additional energy tank pickups to complete the game. Thus, higher percent completion when skipped. See [[Light Suit without Dark Suit]]

- Amorbis, and therefore the Dark Agon keys can be skipped when skipping the Dark Suit.

- Returning the energy to Agon and Torvus can be skipped (but not Sanctuary, for that triggers Light Suit).

- The keys for the Ing Hive can be skipped by getting over the Ing Hive key gate blocking you from Quadraxis. See [[Skipping the Ing Hive Keys]].

- The Caretaker Drone can be skipped by getting [[Early Screw Attack|Screw Attack early]].

- The PB Guardian can be put off till later if you get Screw Attack and therefore a [[Early Power Bomb Expansion|early PB expansion]], but it must be beaten eventually to have the Sky Temple key in Dark Oasis spawn. ''update:'' same rule should apply to Feeding Pit expansion obtained after Dark Suit via secret worlds.

- The Caretaker Drone can be skipped by getting Screw Attack early.

- The PB Guardian can be put off till later if you get Screw Attack and therefore a early PB expansion, but it must be beaten eventually to have the Sky Temple key in Dark Oasis spawn. ''update:'' same rule should apply to Feeding Pit expansion obtained after Dark Suit via secret worlds.

''Last Updated 12/13/2004''

'''Grapple Beam'''

- Only needed for the room prior to the Vault(room you get Screw Attack in). Methods have been found to bypass all other grapple points.

- Alternatively, skip screw attack(as described below) and solve reaching the energy controller room in sanctuary temple.

'''Screw Attack'''

- Needed in Ing Hive Temple, to obtain an Ing Hive Key, to obtain the Sky Temple Key in Ing Hive Entrance, and to reach Emperor Ing.

But not for lower % due to the nature of needing the main PB expansion(see below) and extra e-tanks.

- Needed to enter sanctuary(1st room in Sanc.) and break the window to reach the Echo Visor/Dark Samus 2 fight.

'''Annihilator Beam'''

- Only the doors in Ing Hive temple prevent this item from being skipped. However, bypassing them will likely only be done via secret worlds.

- The only known "skippable" required item(that counts as %) is the Dark Suit but requires additional energy tank pickups to complete the game. Thus, higher percent completion when skipped.

- Amorbis, and therefore the Dark Agon keys can be skipped when skipping the dark suit.

- Returning the energy to Agon and Torvus can be skipped(but not Sanctuary for that triggers light suit).

- The keys for the Ing Hive can be skipped by getting over the Ing Hive key gate blocking you from Quadraxis. See [[Skipping the Ing Hive Keys]].
In Hydrodynamo Station there is a morph ball cannon that shoots you straight up, from underwater to the top of the room by the save point. If you Screw Attack directly onto the exit of the tube, it will open and you will fall straight down the tube. Once you have scanned the three switches and the floor raises, the morph ball cannon cannot be accessed; as you can only have the Screw Attack after raising the floor (and getting the Gravity Booster and so on), you will be stuck at the bottom of the tunnel until you reset your game if you perform this trick.

'''Chykka Larva'''

''By Sparky''

1) Break the coccoon, and get [[Floaty Jump]].

2) Scan it at the beginning.

3) Immediately after scanning, missile the dark spinners, and charge the light beam.

4) Track chykka until he goes under water, then prepare to fire the charge when he rises. You should hit with all 5 parts of the beam if you are close enough.

5) Then charge power and super missile when he jumps in the air.

6) Charge power again and search for chykka. He should rise a little at some point, so shoot him with the charge then switch to light and wait for him to go under and then up again.

7) Shoot him with light now only this time, however, he tongues. Afaik, it's fastest to hit him with two charge lights, plus a few normal lights to stun him, and then super him.

8) Repeat that second part for the next two phases. he jumps the third time, and tongues the fourth.

This really doesnt save too much time; but, it is easy anyway, so why not use it. The time it saves comes from the third phase. If done normally, Chykka Larva would jump twice, but you would have a four round battle anyway. This time it only jumps once. However, if it did somehow jump twice (which I have never gotten), it could be a three round battle...

VERY IMPORTANT: Stay near the water (and Chykka) to have Chykka tongue you more!

'''Chykka Adult'''

<ul><li>On the Chykka Adult's light form, jump out into the water and fire normal dark shots at point-blank. It only takes 3-4 to stun it. <i>Discovered by Red Scarlet</i>
<li>Once the adult is stunned, seeker missile its back. It takes two missiles to break each target - that's two rounds you have to stun him, instead of the normal 4.
<li>On dark chykka, simply nail it's eggsac with charged light shots. If need be, shoot the Chykklings with the dark beam to get light ammo.
</ul>

Notes:
<ul><li>For pointless fun with Chykka, see [["Where's Chykka?"]]</li></ul>

<B>PART I:</B>

The first part is pretty easy. Simply bomb the Spider Guardian twice so he turns green, then get to the right side and do a DBJ where the red dots are. That way, you'll reach the bomb slot (yellowish dots) faster than going all the way around to the left.

<B>PART II:</B>

The easiest way I found to defeat this part is to get on the ledge on the right side and drop down (red dots) laying bombs when the SG is coming towards you. Do that twice and, when he turns green, just boost to the left side, get on the platform and bomb the slot (yellow dots).

http://membres.lycos.fr/zell99/mp2/zell_sg_2.jpg

<B>PART III:</B>

This part is really easy if you know what to do. Simply boost on the top part from the left. Drop down the opening and land on the block where the red dots are. When you hug the right wall, SG's shield won't hurt you. You just have to get near the left ledge and lay bombs when he comes by to hurt him. Before he goes away, bomb him a second time to get him green. Then simply fall left on the platform that appeared and bomb the slot (yellow dots).

http://membres.lycos.fr/zell99/mp2/zell_sg_3.jpg

<B>PART IV:</B>

No special strategy here. I bomb the slots from bottom to top but it doesn't really matter. If you need more time just get back down and bomb the spider guardian again.

TIP: Zoom out while bombing the Guardian. When the slots are activated, zoom in for better precision while bomb jumping to the other slots. This is especially crucial in part 4, where passage on the right side is messed up by perspective when zoomed out, often making you go too far right.

TIP: ''After'' triggering the slots bomb the guardian so that he glows red; this makes him go faster, saving you time.

Yoshi348: Link Piping and Bulleted Lists.

=== Preliminaries ===

You'll need to register to edit or add pages; check the upper right corner for that.

=== Editing ===

To edit a page, just go to that page and then click the edit tab. Controls are basically like a forum post. There's buttons for the most common tags up top.

Internal links to other pages in this site are made by surrounding the link in double brackets like <nowiki>[[this]]</nowiki>. (Learn that one... it's much faster than the toolbar button.) Go ahead and link to non-existent pages if you wish to have other people create that page.

If you want to make an internal link without using the exact name, (for example, linking to the [[Ghetto Jump]] page with only the word "ghetto",) use the form <nowiki>[[pagename|linkname]]</nowiki>. This is called "link piping", with the pipe referring to the "|" character (as in command line environments like DOS and UNIX).

For external links, use the form <nowiki>[http://www.example.com link title]</nowiki>. Note that the wiki will choke on certain characters that are valid in URLs.

If you want to display something that has a special meaning to the wiki, use the <nowiki><nowiki></nowiki> tags. This will supress even standard HTML tags. Most tags use HTML style conventions rather than BBCode conventions.

=== Adding pages ===

To add a page, you must edit an existing page to have a link to the page you want to create. Then click that link and you'll be put directly into edit mode, since there's nothing there. By default, non-existent internal links are marked by a red link rather than blue.

If you want to make bulleted lists like in other pages, first surround each bullet with <nowiki><li> and </li></nowiki>. Then, surround the all the bullets with <nowiki><ul> and </ul></nowiki>.

=== Misc. Notes ===

Note that each page has a corresponding discussion page to talk about the article. It's one of the tabs at the top.

One thing to watch out for is that you MUST seperate paragraphs with a blank line,
or the wiki will
automatically
put
the
text
on
the same line.
Edit this page to see what I mean. To force a line break, use the <nowiki><br></nowiki> tag. (No need for a closing tag.)

Need practice? Edit the [[sandbox]]!

''Contributors: Solr_Flare, Sparky, some others <.< ''

'''Form 1:'''

Weapons of choice: Power bombs, normal light beam, super missiles

1) As soon as the fight begins, morph.

2) When the tentacles get near you(ideal is when swatting or spinning) use a powerbomb to instantly destroy 80% to all of the tentacles.

3) Unmorph and finish off any remaining tentacles with single shots of light beam or missiles. Each tentacle can be destroyed with ONE light beam or TWO missile shots.

4) Begin charging your power beam as the core unfolds.

5) Using careful timing, fire a super missile into the unshielded gap of the core.

6) Carefully strafing to avoid being hit by the red laser, continue to fire super missiles into the core.

It takes 4 super missiles to the core to destroy form 1. If you are fast, this can be done in the first round. If you can't squeeze 4 in, repeat steps 1 through 6 until its dead.

'''Form 2:'''

Weapons of choice: power bombs, regular bombs

1) Immediately spider onto the cocoon and look for yellowish orange tentacles coming out of golden triangular "spots" on the body.

2) When a tentacle exposes itself(black smoke will bubble out prior to one exposing itself) use a powerbomb to instantly destroy it.

Ideally you can take out 2 or 3 tentacles per power bomb. If you run out, switch to normal bombs and use those. Be careful of the inglet puddles clinging to the body as well. Those can be destroyed via normal/power bombs. To regain health, stay near the top and kill the puddles as they appear.

'''Form 3:'''

Weapons of choice: Annihilator, regular missiles/light beam

1) Form 3 has 4 different forms of attack

- Laser barrage(strafe to avoid)

- Dark Energy Freeze(strafe to avoid)

- Shockwave Jump(dash jump to avoid then space jump the shockwave)

- Charge attack(morph and boost under his feet)

2) Form 3 has 3 different colored "mouthes". These cycle regularly.

- Red mouth: use regular missiles/light beam to force this to the other mouth colors.

- White/Light mouth: damage with regular annihilator beam shots

- Purple/Dark mouth: damage with regular annihilator beam shots

3) You can only hit the mouth when it is open(he randomly will close it), thus a good seeking weapon does ideal damage for the speed. In this case it is the annihilator and regular missiles.

4) If form 3 charges you and you boost under to avoid it, you will have a brief window of opportunity to lock on and fire the appropriate weapon for the mouth color into a small "hole" in his backside. Yes I know what you are thinking, but it is correct...you can indeed shoot him up the arse. It gives you a chance to deal some extra damage.

5) Should you run out of light/dark ammo, emperor ing will sometimes makes a cloud of Nightbarbs when you damage him with another weapon/beam. If you shoot this cloud, it wil spew out about 40 to 60 light and dark ammo. Letting you resupply quickly and switch back to annihilator.

6) Also worth noting: you can only damage his "life bar" when he is in light/dark mouth mode. This is why missiles are best during orange mouth because they seek very well and can quickly force him to another mouth color.

'''faster way to kill form 1'''
''by Flyfunner''
''Contributor: Flyfunner''

Super Missiles doesnt make that much damage as the Sonic Boom does. If you can evade his laser you can easily
kill him in 1 round. The Sonic Boom makes a bit more damage and you can shoot it faster then Super Missiles

'''Additional way to kill form 3'''
''by TheOldeKnight''
''Contributor: TheOldeKnight''

The easiest and fastest way to kill the final form of the emperor ing

1) Make sure you have at least 150-250 both light and dark beam ammo

2)Lock on to the emperor ing and rapidly fire the annilator beam at him, no matter what color his mouth is, after the first few shots with the beam his body will start flashing yellow with each shot, and then it will take serious damage.
All you have to do is fire the annihilator beam as fast as you can at him, and his health will just drop.

If you defeat a boss of a dark temple, but do not actually have Samus collect the energy within the temple energy controller, those psychic barriers do not appear on the doors out of the area. This means that if you keep Samus from collecting the energy, you don't have to A) return it, or B) talk to U-Mos again. Sanctuary Fortress is the exception - you need to return the energy to make U-Mos give you the Light Suit.

In Dark Agon Temple, after you get the Dark Suit, turn around and head back to the entrance of the temple. Nullify the Light Crystal there with a normal dark beam shot, jump on top of the crystal, jump to the door, and go. For some reason the invisible platform above nullified light crystals is higher then that of regular light crystals... you can't make the jump without nullifying it.

[http://www.metroid2002.com/maur/dark_agon_temple_exit.avi Vid of the above trick.]

In Dark Torvus Temple, after you defeat Chykka, grab the Dark Visor. However, the elevator does not show up. You need to refresh the room in the game's memory to do this. Jump on the invisible platforms to the top and go through the door. Get in the bomb slot in the security station and spin it. This will cause the game to dump the temple from memory so it can load the energy controller room. Spin the security station again (thus putting you back where you started) and enter the temple again. It's been refreshed - the elevator's now there! Hop in it and forget about the energy.

Pity we can't skip the Sanctuary Fortress energy...
