Dark Samus 3 & 4 Strategy

By Solr_Flare

Contributors: Solr_Flare, Prime Hunter, a multitude of others

Dark Samus 3:

Weapon of Choice: Annihilator

1) To get from DS3 to DS4, you must first take off 1/4 of DS's life bar. Do not hold back because you don't need beam ammo for DS4.

2) The ideal weapon to use is Annihilator as it does significant damage. But if you are out of one or both ammo types, any other beam/charged beam will work. Annihilator regular shots can drop her to 75% health in about 10 seconds though.

3) Be sure not to attempt to damage her when she has a glowing "blue shield" around her, as you will not be able to hit her. Easiest is when she is stealthed and only visable via the echo visor. Missiles won't work, so save them for DS4.

Added by Prime Hunter

Also, when Dark Samus goes into the floating mode where she fires the phazon-like beam at you, I found that you can pretty much stand under her and not get hit by this: Easier to do than trying to dodge it in my opinion

"Added by Enddor"

To defeat her very easily, just use a sonic boom, instant change to Dark Samus 4. It is the best to use it when she gets closer to you (almost point blank), then it will hit easily. 'Note' you have to have the ammo!
Also, you can save lots of time on Dark Samus 4 by doing lots of damage (enough so that it will not change to Dark Samus 4), then using a sonic boom.

Added by MissileWaster

Once, on my first time fighting him/her/it, I took away 75% of it's health before it turned into DS4. I have no idea how or why this happened, but I know it did because I turned on my scan visor when it lost 25% of it's health and it was still DS3.

Dark Samus 4

Weapon of Choice: Charged Power Beam, Super Missiles

1) DS has two different phases in this form: "Bubble mode" and "Not in Bubble mode"

2) Bubble Mode consists of 2 different attacks

- giant blue/white homing phazon particles that she randomly shoots

- small blue/white snowflakes that she shoots out of the top of the bubble towards you whenever her bubble expands

3) When she is in bubble mode, there is one wall in the room that does not have phazon against it. Back yourself up against the wall to give yourself room.

4) Begin charging your power beam while she is in bubble mode. Strafe to the left or right to easily dodge the large phazon particles she shoots at you.

5) When she unleashes the "snowflakes" in bubble mode, you must suck 3 in like a vaccuum with your charging power beam.

6) Once you have 3 snowflakes sucked in, your charge will glow blue and sparkle. Quickly shoot that at Dark Samus to damage her lifebar.

7) Eventually her bubble will shrink and she will float to the ground. The instant she begins to stand up from her crouch, fire a Super missile at close range. This will instantly force her back into bubble mode.

8) Should you miss with the super missile when she lands, damage from any beam(annihilator prefered) can force her back into bubble mode again.

Now repeat this until you finally beat her. It takes approximately 5 to 6 snowflake powered charge beams in bubble mode to finish her on normal difficulty.

Added by Prime Hunter

When she is in the "bubble" mode, I also noticed that if you move inward towards her when she fires the large phazon particles (You need to be pretty close to her for this to work), you can easily avoid them. Just be sure to move back off a bit after it hits. This is so that when she expands the bubble for the "snowflakes", the expansion doesn't collide with you.

And one minor note here: When she fires the snowflakes out at you, be sure to manually aim at them instead of continuing to lock onto Dark Samus: Trust me on this one...

Added by MegaSpy21

Just a minor note: Those super missiles she shoots in bubble mode are the easiest things in the world to dodge. You don't need to strafe dash to avoid them, or back against a wall for that matter. All you have to do is lock on to her and slowly strafe a few inches to the side as the thing is flying at you. It will fly right past you.

Added by Zxcvbnm

If you turn the sound on, you can hear an audio cue before DS fires a homing missile as opposed to Phazon "snowflakes," and dodge it. The missile is much louder and more mechanical-sounding.

Added by SamusAranLuver
Discovered by: my cousin Arnold Yum

When DS is about to fire a missile the phazon bubble around her is normal, but when Ds is about to fire phazon snow flakes at you the phazon bubble enlarges. You can use both my stratige or Zxcvbnm's to predict DS's next Attack.

Added by Kirzath

While trying to grab the Phazon "snowflakes", jump while doing so, so if you miss one, it does not dammage you and make you have to wait for DS to launch more Phazon "snowflakes"

Added by DJ Grenola

While DS is not in bubble mode, her only means of attack is a melee-style phazon shield attack. You can prevent this easily just by space jumping backwards as she approaches (useful in a no-energy tank game).

Added by SamusAranLuver
This is a funny trick but rather useless or might be use full in a no E-tank game. When DS fires a missile just walk left and walk forward then right and back again to dodge the missile(while locked on trust me).(also can be used by moving in the opposite directions.)

Added by Edward Tohr

Everyone probabally knows this already, but if you suck in more than three snowflakes, your 'Phazon Missile' does more damage.

Added by SamusAranLuver

This might be usefull on speed runs. I'm not sure when this happens but.. stand as far away from ds4 as possible if your lucky then she will use phazon snow flakes the she will go back to the ground.Well absrob the snow flakes then bring it to the next round or force her back up with it.Well if you chose to bring it to the next round then when her bubble exspands shoot the phazon beam at her then IMEDITLY chrage and get another phzon beam, but if your lucky you might be able to get 4 rounds of phazon snow flakes in one round. SO in totaly thats 5 phazon chage beam attacks and depending on how much damage you did to her when she was ds3 you might be able to kill her before she even comes back to the floor. So probly i'm estemating about 4,5 charged phazon beams will kill her.
NOTE:if you get hit by a missile its all ruined
so dont mess up

Added by Tim

Ekarderif suggested this, and amazingly it works. Instead of charging the Power Beam during the Snowflake part, charge the Dark Beam. Knock off the shot the same as normal, and the dark energy will envelop DS just like in the DS2 fight, and it'll cause more damage.

Watch a video of this baffling... thing.

There's something rather odd that can occur during the Chykka Larva fight. The problem is that it seems to be rather useless, as if you leave during the fight and return, Chykka's gone MIA without leaving you the Dark Visor.

To do it, before the fight starts, shoot down 3 of the targets binding Chykka, then get in the dark water and shoot down the last one. If you're in the water at the time the cutscene starts, try jumping after the cutscene ends and see if you go higher. By watching the video, you'll see Chykka Larva's energy meter disappear when Kip triggers the bomb slot, and when he came back from taking the Temple's energy in the middle of the fight, Chykka was gone, and Kip was stuck because there was no Dark Visor. Tim did some experimenting and found that you can't reproduce this once the Larva is dead, as even if you're on the balcony when Chykka dies, the next battle resets you onto one of the platforms around the room.

The trick to keeping this seems to be not falling in water (good luck not getting whacked by Chykka at some point), but regardless of your performance, you get to keep the jump after beating Chykka. Aside from your desire to leave Torvus Bog by taking an elevator or falling into some other kind of water (dark or normal), you'll get to keep it and play around with it. Also, if you save and then re-load, the floaty jump doesn't carry over.

Overall, it seems this is just one of those interesting tricks that can kill the game, much like the glitch with leaving without the Artifact of Warrior from the first game. Maybe you could get the Torvus Plaza tank without spider or something... like that's so great anyway. So unless someone finds a way to use this and still get the Dark Visor, it seems relatively useless.

Other notes:
* If you lose the floaty attribute while fighting Chykka, you can't get it back by being in dark water when the end of larva form cutscene is played.

* Grapples and dashes are somewhat floaty, but bomb jumps are not (doubt it can be used for a one bomb at a time ibj or anything).

* Midair morphs seem to be improved by it.

* Terminal Falls don't affect the use of it.

Discovered by: Tim/Matt/Ekarderif

The LOL Jump can be applied in a very difficult manner (harder, I think, than ghetto'ing in Industrial Site, but oh well) to actually skip the Alpha Blogg fight altogether, saving at the very least a minute or so. To do it, solve the puzzles like normal and go get the Gravity Boost, then go and enter the fight. After that, do these things:
<ul>
<li> Lock on and stay behind or to the side of the Blogg, if you can. You want to be in a position where he can't easily turn and fire sonic blasts, or charge.</li>
<li> Press Z to locate the exit door, or look around for the ledge high on the wall.</li>
<li> You want to LOL Jump off the Alpha Blogg when it's to the side of this ledge; do it while it's swimming under the ledge, and chances are you won't be able to recover in time to not bonk your head.</li>
<li> This is where it gets very tricky. Doing this jump off of stationary objects is easy, but the Alpha Blogg is a fairly quick creature, and you have to time it exactly right. If your Visor doesn't tilt down like you're moving over the boss, your jump won't carry you high enough to pull this off.</li>
<li> If you successfully can manage this jump, use your added boost (try to time it yourself; when you start to settle back down, quickly punch B to activate your hover), and float up to the ledge. From there, float to the next highest ledge and exit.</li>
</ul>
Now continue on like normal. Skipping Alpha Blogg has no adverse effects on the game (it did lock up once for me inside Sanctuary Fortress, but I don't think this was a result of the skip), as I completed a full 100% game with the boss skip.

<ul>The Lock On Ladder Jump (LOL) (named by Matt, Tim, Ekarderif, and anyone else present at the time) can be used to achieve a seeming boost in height when locked on to an object. It can be most notably used in the room before the Light Beam. Space Jump across the dark water and lower the platform with the Dark Beam, then lock onto the crystal. Stand at the edge (where you would normally do a Ghetto Jump), and Space Jump directly at the crystal. Your jump should carry you towards the crystal while forcing your view down to stay locked on. The result is a small boost in height that seems to occur as your visor is shifting from its locked-on position back to its normal position.

You can also get this boost by performing this lock jump off of any enemy that jumps, such as Space Pirates (tends to work the best in Hall of Eyes by using the Dark ones), or Grenchlers. Do it as a Grenchler is jumping, and you sail extremely high into the air. Or for even more fun, check out the Alpha Blogg page!</ul>

The result is a small boost in height that seems to occur as your visor is shifting from its locked-on position back to its normal position.</ul>

<ul>You can also get this boost by performing this lock jump off of any enemy that jumps, such as Space Pirates (tends to work the best in Hall of Eyes by using the Dark ones), or Grenchlers. Do it as a Grenchler is jumping, and you sail extremely high into the air.</ul>

<ul>The basic thing here is that you can cheat the system into letting you leave a world if you don't return its energy (why you'd want to, I don't know, but anyway). Normally you have telekinetic barriers blocking the entrances and exits to the worlds, and they tell you that the energy cannot leave the world it is bound to. If you wait, and come back to get the Torvus energy later (maybe after getting an early Powerbomb), you can leave via Training Chamber and travel to Sanctuary Fortress. The weird thing is, try and go back to Torvus via the normal entryway (Hall/Path of Eyes), and you can't get in. The door opens, but it's merely an invisible barrier.

The other weird part is something I found in Agon Wastes. You can do the same thing here (just leave after getting Dark Suit), and get the energy later, but I found telekinetic locks on all three transports. It struck me as a bit odd that an earlier world would have everything locked up, but a later world wouldn't. No tests have been performed with Sanctuary to see if you can get in/out, and back in or not.

A video would be nice, I suppose, but to view the entire Torvus sequence is about 10 minutes. Depends on if anyone feels like recording something like it.</ul>

I don't know if other people have discovered this or not, but it struck me as just a bit odd. When in Training Chamber, and the Dark Bloggs spawn, you can get them to completely vanish by activating the statue (that in turn reveals the Missile Expansion). I've tried it three times, and all three times after bombing the Slot, the Dark Bloggs completely vanished (no death sound effect or anything - just *poof*).

If you hate fighting them, then I guess this is pretty useful. I guess it has something to do with the statue resetting the room, much like Skipping Energy Controllers.

Edit by Tim: Note that this only works the first time through, because the Dark Bloggs will respawn if you leave and come back, so I guess don't use this unless you're getting the Missile Expansion and heading to Sanctuary *shrug*

from MetroidObserver:
I saw, in the same room, when you reenter it after getting grapple beam (i belive)and can encounter the dark bloggs for the first time, if you kill the larva off from behind one of the mesh screens then jump over, the ing possesiion thing will come in and possess: thin air :)

If you hate fighting them, then I guess this is pretty useful.

Once you got the Screw Attack you can get to Storage C without raising the platforms and without using the Spider Ball tracks. This way you can save a lot of time in a 100% game.

Notes:

* Jump onto the panel that is used to lower the platforms near the door to Security Station A.
* Space jump onto the platform above the panel where the block with Spider Ball track is.
* Jump onto the next level of that platform and position yourself left of the Spider Ball track.
* When you face the door to Storage C you should only see the lower half of the door. The upper half of the door can't be seen because of a huge tube on the ceiling.
* Do your first jump to start a Screw Attack to the door.
* Try to hit the ceiling after the second jump. This way you'll avoid hitting the tube.
* Do the third jump to start the Screw Attack in the moment the tube goes out of the top of the sreen.
* Proceed Screw Attacking to get to the door leading to Storage C.
<ul>Don't know if this way is any easier, it's how I got there. Set the blocks to be three high on the door side(should already be there from the first time through), stand on the blocks next to the door and you can Screw Attack from there to the door.</ul>

----

Tim

<ul>Slight addition to the above description - Space Jump to the highest of the blocks, stand on the far-right edge, then jump out, curving the second jump in mid-air before starting the Screw Attack. Keep cranking left on the control stick to slightly alter your trajectory and you'll land on the ledge very easily.

There's something rather odd that can occur during the Chykka Larva fight (this needs to be tested during the Larva Death cutscene).

* If you lose the floaty attribute while fighting Chykka, you can't get it back by being in dark water when the end of larva form cutscene is played (not sure about his death cutscene).

* Grapples and dashes are somewhat floaty, but bomb jumps are not (doubt it can be used for a one bomb at a time ibj or anything).
If you defeat a boss of a Dark Temple, but do not actually have Samus collect the energy within the temple's Energy Controller - those psychic barriers do not appear on the doors out of the area. This means that if you keep Samus from collecting the energy, you don't have to A) return it, or B) talk to U-Mos again. Sanctuary Fortress is the exception - you need to return the energy to make U-Mos give you the Light Suit.

In Dark Agon Temple, after you get the Dark Suit, turn around and head back to the entrance of the temple. Nullify the Light Crystal there with a normal dark beam shot, jump on top of the crystal, jump to the door, and go. For some reason the invisible platform above nullified light crystals is higher then that of regular light crystals... you can't make the jump without nullifying it.

Vid of the above trick.

In Dark Torvus Temple, after you defeat Chykka, grab the Dark Visor. However, the elevator does not show up. You need to refresh the room in the game's memory to do this. Jump on the invisible platforms to the top and go through the door. Then, just head behind the bomb slot - that's right, behind it - which resets the room and allows you to leave without getting Torvus' energy. If the door back out to the Temple takes a while to open, then you've succeeded in refreshing the room! Head back out and take the elevator, forgetting about the energy.

Pity we can't skip the Sanctuary Fortress energy...

Aside from taking an elevator to another area, you lose it by touching water (dark or normal), so you have to beat Chykka without touching the dark water in his room. You also don't keep it if you save the game and reload the file.

Overall, unless it's possible to take this to another area somehow (or skip Chykka's adult form and go on with the game normally), it's useless. Maybe you could get the Torvus Plaza tank without spider or something... like that's so great anyway. So unless someone finds a way to use this and still get the Dark Visor, it seems relatively useless.

Other notes:
* if you lose the floaty attribute while fighting Chykka, you can't get it back by being in dark water when the end of larva form cutscene is played (not sure about his death cutscene)

* grapples and dashes are somewhat floaty, but bomb jumps are not (doubt it can be used for a one bomb at a time ibj or anything)

* midair morph seems to be improved by it

* unknown whether terminal falls get rid of it
